Flexible, Mobile and Connected: 639 Intro Video

  1. Hi Alisha,

I agree with you post. Online education does allow us the flexibility to work around any job we have regardless of our hours. And yes we can carry our school work with us. I once used my laptop in my car while Denise (my wife) was driving tethered through my phone to complete an assignment I had forgotten. There is even a BB application for smartphones. The one thing that I like about the connection through online classes is that the connection is actually safer than the connection in face to face classes. There is now way for that stranger in the class to follow you home, and if you feel a relationship with another student is not in your best interest, you simply don't interact with them. Thanks for your post.

  2. Hello Alisha,

I do agree that distance education lends to a popular need for flexibility in education. This is true because schedules are so demanding and there are often time restraints on people that can hinder them to return to a distance education system. I like how you mentioned that mobility is important when discussing the trend in online education. I do agree with this because technology today is constantly advancing. Therefore by people being able to learn at their own pace, while still being engaged with technology, is not only preparing them for their courses online but also preparing them to keep up with the technology driven society that we live in. Thank you for your post and I look forward to interacting with you soon! Lets make this a great course! Have a blessed night!

  3. Hello Alisha, and good to meet you.

One of the concepts you discuss in your post is "connected". I agree that this is an important, and achievable goal in distance education. As I said in my first sentence, after viewing your VBlog, I feel as though I HAD met you.

Often, tools which insert a synchronous element into courses in order to obtain that connected community element. Unfortunately, the end consumer (us students) strongly desire ( according to recent trends) the classes to be asynchronous. This causes resentment, less than optimal motivation, and even poor participation at times.

The Vblogs, and even the text based blogs, have given me a much greater feeling of community and connection, and maintained my flexible schedule. They allow for the viewer to absorb a bit of the personality of the poster, and feel like they actually know them a bit. That in turn makes working together with those people more enjoyable and effective.

Great topic. You have inspired me to research more tools that work toward community but still provide asynchronous flexibility.
